Dunthorpe


In January 1916, the Ladd Estate Company purchased 215 acres from the soon-to-be-dissolved Oregon Iron & Steel Company for $1. The company drafted specific provisions for Dunthorpe development dictating that only residential buildings could be built there and the minimum cost of a house was to be $3,000.

 

VIBE AND STYLE

Best known for its elegant properties and central location, Dunthorpe is a close-knit, residential community located 10 minutes south of downtown Portland near Lewis & Clark College and the city of Lake Oswego. Often referred to as the most prestigious address in metropolitan Portland, it is very secluded, yet close to all the amenities one could possibly need.

OUTDOOR SANCTUARY

Tryon Creek State Park runs along the western border of Dunthorpe and has 645 forested acres of hiking trails, paved bicycle paths and horse trails. On a high bluff on the Willamette River, is the Elk Rock Gardens of the Bishop's Close, an estate with six acres of cultivated English-style gardens designed by the New York firm that designed Central Park in New York City. The garden is open to the public and is known for its many varieties of magnolias as well as many other native and exotic plants.
